OVERALL IT WAS A FAIRLY QUIET MONTH EXCEPT FOR A BLOWING DUST EVENT ON THE 4TH. THE DUST RESULTED IN SEVERAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ON HIGHWAY 95 SOUTHBOUND NEAR GENESSEE. PEAK WIND GUSTS INCLUDE 53 MPH FERDINAND AND ALPOWA SUMMIT, 51 MPH AT THE LEWISTON AIRPORT, 46 MPH CRAIGMONT, AND 44 MPH AT THE PULLMAN AIRPORT. OCTOBER IS THE BIGGEST MONTH OF WEATHER CHANGES FOR THE INLAND NW HISTORICALLY AND THIS ONE WAS NO DIFFERENT. LEWISTON REACHED THE 70S ON 13 OF THE FIRST 14 DAYS OF THE MONTH, WITH THE 8TH EVEN REACHING THE 80 DEGREE MARK. BUT BY THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER TEMPERATURES WERE MUCH COOLER WITH HIGHS MOST DAYS IN THE 50S. PERIODS OF LIGHT PRECIPITATION AND BREEZY WINDS ACCOMPANIED SEVERAL FRONTAL PASSAGES DURING THE MONTH. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 78F ON THE 20TH SET A NEW DAILY RECORD FOR THE DATE AT THE LEWISTON AIRPORT.
