Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO
529 PM CDT Mon Oct 13 2025

Cloud cover and increased humidity will continue to impact most
of the region tonight, with gradual clearing from south to north
tomorrow. Mixing heights will improve tomorrow in the presence of
more abundant sunshine (and thus stronger low-level instability).
Particular improvements will be along and south of I-70, where
mixing heights top out in the 3,000-4,000ft range. Further north,
while lower, mixing heights will reach roughly 2,000ft by the
early afternoon. Despite areas of higher mixing heights,
transport winds will stay weak (and ventilation rates stay poor)
as high pressure aloft settles in. Smoke dispersion from the
ground should still be fairly efficient where mixing heights are
higher due to the stronger low-level lapse rates and instability.
RH values will be lowest (30- 40% during the afternoon) in
eastern Missouri and southern Illinois, where mixing will be most
abundant. With weak easterly winds, any threat for erratic fire
behavior will be low.

Above normal warmth is expected to last through at least Friday.
Minimum RH values become more uniformly in the 35-50% range each
afternoon until Saturday, with winds remaining fairly weak until
Friday. A cold front brings better potential of more widespread
rain and progressively cooler temperatures through the end of the
upcoming weekend.
