Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO
323 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Elevated fire weather conditions are expected today, although the
threat of wildfires will be highly dependent on local fuel
conditions. A cold front will move through the area this morning,
and behind this front humidity will quickly drop. By early
afternoon, very low humidity can be expected, along with breezy
northwesterly winds. Deep mixing will also promote efficient
ventilation and smoke dispersion. These conditions will be most
prevalent roughly along and north of I-70, as this is where both
the strongest winds will occur and where fuels are most
susceptible. Grasslands, prairies, and agricultural fields with
dry cops or crop debris will be most vulnerable. Winds will become
light overnight, reducing the threat. Cooler temperatures and
lighter winds are expected tomorrow, but low humidity will
persist. Low humidity and a steady warming trend are expected
through the work week, with mostly light winds that will gradually
become southerly.
