...STORM FORCE NORTHEAST WINDS AND HAZARDOUS SEAS OVER THE INNER
COASTAL WATERS TODAY INTO THURSDAY, INCLUDING IMPACTING EAST
FACING HARBORS...

Gusty northeast winds and choppy seas will develop over the
coastal waters southeast of Point Conception this morning then
continue into Thursday morning. The marine conditions expected
have a history of vessel damage and loss of life. Mariners should
avoid these areas, or remain in safe harbor until conditions
improve. Avalon Harbor should NOT be considered safe harbor during
this event.

Northeast winds of 25 to 35 kt with gusts to 50 kt will be
possible with short period wind waves up to 6 feet across
nearshore areas from Ventura to Santa Monica, and out past Santa
Cruz and Anacapa Islands. Northeast winds of 20 to 30 kt with
gusts to 35 kt with wind waves of 3 to 5 feet have the potential
to move through the San Pedro Channel and impact most of the
unprotected east side of Catalina Island, including Avalon and Two
Harbors.

The winds will be strongest this morning. Winds will increase
again, though possibly slightly weaker than the previous morning,
tonight into Thursday morning. Strong offshore winds will create
choppy, cross seas due to the northwest swell combined with
northeasterly wind waves.
