.DISCUSSION...
Extremely hot and dry conditions remain on track through Thursday.
Temperatures will peak on Wednesday with highs between 100 and 110
common in the valleys and mountains, as well as parts of the Central
Coast. With some cool air aloft, mixing heights will be extreme and
reach 12,000 to 20,000 feet over most areas each afternoon. Minimum
humidities between 5 and 15 percent will be common in the mountains and
valleys, especially on Wednesday. Fairly typical diurnal wind gusts in
the 15 to 25 mph range will be common, generally offshore in the morning
and onshore in the afternoon. The Highway 14 Corridor and the Santa
Lucia Mountains will likely see some localized stronger gusts up to 35
mph, especially Wednesday and Thursday morning. Considering the fairly
widespread critically dry fuels and the high risk for large plume
dominated fires, widespread elevated fire weather conditions are
expected through Thursday. Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches
are in effect for the highest risk areas that also have some locally
enhanced winds.
Improved but still dry conditions expected on Friday. North to northeast
flow will steadily increase and expand as early as Saturday but focused
Sunday through Monday of next week. While there is a significant range
of outcomes, there is a moderate risk for Red Flag conditions over any
county.
