Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Northern IL and Northwest IN
National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville IL
350 PM CDT Sat Oct 5 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Winds remain breezy this afternoon with gusts in the 25 to 35 mph
range out of the south (highest in Illinois) with RH values mainly
in the 30 to 40 percent range.

Winds trend southwesterly this evening ahead of a cold front
which is expected to move through the area after midnight. While
winds may diminish slightly ahead of the front, gusts should
quickly return behind it as directions become westerly and
eventually northwesterly Sunday morning. Additionally, there is
also a low chance (around 20%) for some scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms with the front late tonight, mainly for
areas along and north of I-90. A much drier airmass is expected to
move in behind the front on Sunday which will result in afternoon
RH values falling into the 20 to 30 percent range, especially for
locales south of I-80. These RH values in combination with the
breezy winds and dry fuel moistures will result in elevated to
near Red Flag fire weather conditions Sunday afternoon.

While the breezy winds will subside Sunday night, the dry weather
and near to above normal temperatures are expected to persist
through the end of the upcoming week.
