.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 211 AM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025

Cooler and less humid air has spread across the region in wake
of Saturday`s cold front but another weak trough will move
across the area this afternoon, bringing slightly cooler air to
the area. There will be a chance of isolated showers from early
afternoon through early evening, mainly across northeast IL and
northwest IN. If anything develops, coverage is expected to be
low and current slight chance pops (20%) seem on track.

Northwest winds will increase after sunrise and be similar to
Saturday with gusts into the 25-30 mph range expected. These
will slowly diminish through the early evening before
diminishing completely after sunset.

The stronger northwest winds will maintain high waves and
dangerous swimming conditions for Lake Michigan beaches in
northwest IN and planning to expand the beach hazard statement
west into Lake County in northwest Indiana. Winds turn more
northerly Tuesday, as speeds begin to diminish and its possible
the beach hazard statement may need to be extended with later
forecasts.

Lake effect rain showers will remain possible tonight into
Monday morning and again Monday night into Tuesday morning,
mainly for northeast Porter County in northwest IN. While
waterspouts also remain possible, the better chances continue
to be north and northeast of the local marine area.

High temps in the 70s are expected each day through Wednesday
with perhaps a few areas tagging 80 for high temps Thursday and
Friday. Morning lows will be in the mid/upper 40s for most areas
outside the Chicago metro area Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
mornings, with low/mid 50s for Chicago. cms
