064 FZUS63 KMKX 011358 GLFLM OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI 858 AM CDT Tue Oct 1 2024 FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan. Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will occasionally be encountered. .SYNOPSIS... A cold front is pass through the region this morning exiting the southern half of the lake over the next couple hours. Gusty northwest winds are expected along and behind the front. Gusts will occasionally approach gale thresholds over the southern open waters of Lake Michigan through early afternoon, with an isolated gust above gale force possible. Will monitor trends through this morning, though the anticipated isolated nature of any gale-force gusts precludes the need for any Gale Warnings at this time. 30.4 inch high pressure will become established over the central Great Plains this afternoon, weakening to 30.0 inches as it drifts into the Ohio River Valley on Wednesday. An area of 29.6 inch low pressure will simultaneously develop and track along the United States-Canada border, reaching Lake Superior by Wednesday evening. This evolution will allow for winds to shift out of the southwest on Wednesday afternoon. Gusts will approach gale thresholds over the northern third of the open waters during this time period. Gale Warnings are not currently anticipated, but trends will be closely monitored through today.
