OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
855 AM CST Tue Dec 2 2025

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

High pressure around 30.1 inches well to the south of the region
will bring light west winds today, becoming southwest and
increasing by early this evening.

A strong cold front along a low pressure trough around 29.8
inches will then cross Lake Michigan Wednesday. Gusty southwest
winds are expected ahead of this front early Wednesday morning,
with gusty northwest winds behind it Wednesday afternoon and
night. Winds will remain just below gales for most the lake,
though a brief period of low end gales is possible Wednesday night
over the far northern part of the lake. Very cold air with this
system will result in a risk for freezing spray Wednesday night
and Thursday.

Light winds are expected Thursday with the influence of high
pressure around 30.4 inches over Illinois and Indiana. Another
period of elevated southwest winds will occur Thursday night into
Friday, as another low pressure trough around 29.8 inches crosses
the Upper Great Lakes region.
