.DISCUSSION...
(This evening through next Friday)

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Skies are currently mostly sunny across
northern and central Nevada this afternoon. An upper trough is
currently moving across the northern Rockies at this time and will
continue its southeastward projection tonight and Saturday.
Northwest flow behind a dry cold front will bring breezy winds to
portions of the northeast during the evening hours. No
precipitation is expected tonight with lows in the teens and 20s.

An upper ridge will be over the eastern Pacific and will bring a
northwest flow aloft on Saturday. High temperatures will be
several degrees cooler than Friday with highs in the 40s and 50s.
Winds are expected to be light. Look for a shortwave trough to
quickly dive to the south Saturday night into Sunday. This is
expected to be a cold system with snow levels at the valley floors
for all locations. Snow amounts and areal coverage have both
increased. Overnight lows will be in the 20s.

On Sunday, the upper wave will be heading south across the eastern
Great Basin. Snow amounts will generally be one to three inches
in northern Elko county with a trace to about an inch in the area
with mountain summits and passes seeing one to two inches. Colder
air will infiltrate the region with highs only reaching the 40s in
many locations. Winds will be breezy with gusts to about 20 to 25
mph. Look for clearing during the overnight Sunday with northerly
flow continuing. Lows will be in the teens for the most part.

Monday and Monday night, cold conditions will remain over the area
with north to northwest flow. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s
with winds light. Overnight lows will be in the teens and 20s.

Yet another shortwave will bring snow showers to northern and
central Nevada Tuesday and Tuesday night. Current forecast amounts
are roughly one to three inches in northern Elko county and about
a half inch or so in other locations. Highs will remain in the 40s
and 50s. Overnight lows will be in the teens and 20s.

Look for upper ridging to build in for the latter portions of the
work week with highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in the 20s.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Minor modifications were made to
the snow amounts. Forecast remains on track with high confidence
of much cooler conditions for the upcoming weekend. High and
moderate confidence on the two winter systems coming through this
weekend and early next week, respectively.
