245 FXUS65 KLKN 042010 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 1210 PM PST Wed Dec 4 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Today through Thursday night Dry conditions, warmer weather, and light winds forecast for Nevada through tomorrow night due to high pressure. && .SHORT TERM... High pressure will expand eastward today and tomorrow. Highs in the lower 50s forecast, which will be around 10 degrees higher than normal for this time of year. Light winds and dry conditions expected on both days. .LONG TERM...Friday through next Wednesday A ridge of high pressure will extend eastward across Northern Nevada Friday and Friday night. This ridge of high pressure will slide southward Saturday. High temperatures throughout Northern and Central Nevada both Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon will be around ten degrees above normal for this time of year. Here are probabilities of maximum temperatures of 50 degrees or higher for select locations in Northern and Central Nevada on Saturday, December 7th, 2024: Austin - 90% Elko - 80% Ely - 80% Eureka - 75% Jackpot - 70% Tonopah - 65% Battle Mountain - 60% Spring Creek - 55% Winnemucca - 55% Wells - 55% A trough of low pressure will move eastward near the Nevada/Idaho border Saturday evening and Saturday night. Most, if not all, precipitation associated with this trough of low pressure will remain north of Northern Nevada Saturday evening and Saturday night. A cold front will dive southeastward across Northeastern Nevada Sunday and Sunday night, resulting in a chance of precipitation. Most of this precipitation will remain confined to Elko County, north of Interstate 80. Snow levels will start at around 5,000 feet Sunday morning, before dropping to the valley floor Sunday night. The majority of precipitation will fall Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. An inch or less of snow is possible along Mountain City Highway, north of Elko. Northwest wind gusts near 30 mph are possible in northern Elko County Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. A trough of low pressure will dive southward across Utah Monday and Monday night. A ridge of high pressure will amplify along the west coast of the United States Tuesday and next Wednesday. A cooling trend is expected Sunday and Monday. By Monday afternoon, high temperatures throughout Northern and Central Nevada will be near normal for this time of year. A warming trend is anticipated Tuesday and next Wednesday. By next Wednesday afternoon, maximum temperatures across Northern and Central Nevada will be around five degrees above seasonal values. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions along with light winds at all terminals over the next 24 hour period. && .LKN Watches/Warnings/Advisories...
