.DISCUSSION...
(Today through next Monday)

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Not too much is going on this morning
across northern and central Nevada. Satellite loop at this time is
showing clear skies over the area Only high clouds can be be seen
streaming southward. The weather will continue to be quiet and
dry this afternoon. The current synoptic situation continues to
show a pattern with an upper ridge building across the western and
southwestern United States. For today, rising heights will be
accompanied by a rise in high temperatures of a few degrees. Winds
will generally be from the northwest this afternoon with gusts to
20 mph. No precipitation is expected. Skies are expected to be
mostly clear tonight with occasional breezes.

For Tuesday, heights will continue their rise as upper level high
pressure slides over and then east of Nevada during the day and
evening. Winds are expected to remain out of the west and
northwest with gusts to 20 mph. Afternoon highs will warm to above
normal levels. Some of the warmer locales could see readings
topping one hundred degrees. Based off HeatRisk forecast, decided
to issue a heat advisory for much of northern and central Nevada
for Tuesday. Cumulus buildups are expected during the afternoon
but no precipitation is expected. Look for mostly clear skies at
night.

On Wednesday, the ridge is forecast to shift east with a weak
trough off the California coast. Mid-level moisture is expected to
move into the area, bringing isolated dry thunderstorms to the
area. There will be a degree or two of cooling in the afternoon
but highs will remain above normal. Winds will be breezy out of
the west with gusts to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Look for
partly cloudy conditions for the overnight.

Gradual cooling is forecast each day with afternoon and evening
showers and isolated thunderstorms. Most storms will be a mix of
wet and dry due to the drier sub-cloud layer. Winds will be breezy
during the afternoons with gusts of 20 to 25 mph. The afternoon
convective activity will continue through the week. Highs will
range from the low to mid 90s across Nevada today, warming into
the low 90s to upper 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Some
of the warmer locales could see readings low 100s. For overnight
lows look for readings each night to keep to a similar range,
falling into the 40s and 50s.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Confidence is high on dry
conditions through mid-week with warming conditions. Confidence is
high with regards to temperatures becoming above normal Tuesday
and Wednesday. NBM forecast compares well with current trends but
will continue to add isolated dry thunderstorms for Wednesday
afternoons (and beyond) for portions of central and eastern
Nevada.
