Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New Orleans LA
622 AM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Monday night)
Issued at 1130 PM CDT Sat Aug 23 2025

Upper level low located around Ontario is forecasted to deepen and
the associated trough will dig slowly through the eastern part of
the CONUS. A cold (relatively speaking) front will move southward
and eventually reach the area late Sunday into Monday. The
temperatures will be closer to 90 or the upper 80s, but the
bigger thing is the drier air it will push into the area. This
should help knock the daily heat index values from the 100+ F we
have been seeing daily into the 90s instead.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday night through Saturday night)
Issued at 1130 PM CDT Sat Aug 23 2025

The cold front`s impacts linger through most of the work week
with relatively comfortable temperature and dew point compared to
how normal late August is. Lows will be in the mid 70s (closer to
the coast) and down into the 60s further away. Depending on where
the front ends up stalling, there is some low chance (10-30%) of
showers and storms mostly near the coast but overall it should
should be fairly dry especially the further away you get from the
coast.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 621 AM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025

VFR through this taf cycle. Cigs will remain along the coast
through the day while dissipating inland but still in VFR range.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 1130 PM CDT Sat Aug 23 2025

Other than showers and thunderstorms causing localized increases
in waves/seas and wind gusts, it generally will be benign on the
coastal waters. There may be a period Tuesday through Wednesday
for areas east of the mouth of the Mississippi River that may
require small craft exercise caution criteria as a trough digs
into the area but otherwise winds should remain less than 15
knots. -BL
