Ice continues to form over the southern half of Green Bay and around Big Bar DeNoc near Escanaba, Wisconsin. Ice has formed in Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior and along the south shore between Duluth and the Apostie Islands. Some ice has begun to form along the Wisconsin`s north shore of Lake Michigan. Ice has formed around the Sault Ste. Marie area on Lake Nicolet, Munuscongn Lake, and parts of the St. Marys River. Ice has formed in Saginaw Bay and Thunder Bar near Alpena. Ice has formed in Sandusky Bay around the Lake Erie Islands and near Long Point. Much colder weather and below average temperatures are in the forecast for this week. An Arctic airmass will move over the Great Lakes Region through the middle of this week. There is the potential for rapid ice growth near the Apostle Islands and along the south shores of Lake Superior including around Duluth and Marquette. Ice will continue to expand on Saginaw Bay as well as portions of Green Bay. There is medium confidence for ice formation in the western basin of Lake Erie around and west of the Lake Erie Islands this week. But shore ice will likely form along the western shores of Lake Erie this week. A moderation of temperatures may return late this week into this weekend but generally remain below freezing. There will be the potential ice growth to accelerate and water temperatures to cool more quickly through mid week and slow down by the end of the week.
