Survey Summary: A National Weather Service storm survey revealed that 70 to 100 mph
wind gusts damaged 13 large transmission lines across rural Acadia Parish. In addition
to these power line structures, numerous trees, smaller power poles, outbuildings, and
several homes sustained significant damage. The width of the damage swatch was
approximately 3 miles and began just east of the Mermentau River and extended to
neighborhoods south of Eunice. Some of the greatest damage was large trees falling
on homes. The radar presentation on this event indicated a descending rear inflow
jet within a larger squall line of thunderstorms.
