Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
1220 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Expect a return to typical summertime through the end of the
  week. Moisture pooling in lower Acadiana may result in higher
  rain chances in this area compared to everyone else.

- Rain chances increase a bit over the weekend as a disturbance
  moves across the northern Gulf Coast and provides extra support
  for convection.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday night)
Issued at 1220 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

The weak frontal boundary that has been stalled along the coast over
the past few days has been slowly lifting back north this past
afternoon and evening. As this occurs, the onshore flow around the
subtropical ridge will gradually drag in gulf moisture. Aloft, a
ridge is centered over the SW states while a trough is over much of
the east coast.

Today moisture will have a modest increase over the past 24 hours,
however with a generally north flow above the boundary layer a
substantial increases is not anticipated. Higher PWATs will be
over Acadiana and therefore the higher pops will be located there.
Temperatures will be near climo normals.

Rinse and repeat for Thursday and Friday with near typical August
days on tap.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Wednesday)
Issued at 1220 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

The upper ridge centered over the SW states may weaken over the
local area this weekend. An inverted trough may work into the area
and increase moisture giving a boost to rain chances.

&&

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1220 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

Mostly VFR conditons are anticipated during the period, however
scattered diurnal storms are possible along the I-10 corridor by
afternoon. Winds will be light during the period.

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 1220 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

pressure nudges into the area from the east. A few nocturnal
showers and storms will be possible each morning.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 1206 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

Typical summer scattered afternoon convection and a warm/moist
airmass through the remainder of the week.
