...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CST THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Critical fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon due to a
combination of well above average temperatures in the 60s, dry
air, and strong northwest winds. Though humidity will remain near
to slightly above critical criteria (around 20-25%), strong
northwest winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour across the
Sandhills and north central Nebraska will lead to a threat for
rapid fire spread. Northwest wind gusts of 25 to 35 miles per hour
are also expected across southwest Nebraska. A Red Flag Warning
is in effect today across all of western and north central
Nebraska.

Above average temperatures persist into the weekend and early next
week, with a threat for elevated fire weather persisting as well.
Slightly below average temperatures and a threat for wetting
moisture returns into the middle of next week, leading to
lessening fire concerns.
