Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
418 AM CDT Wed Aug 6 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Expected hot temperatures and limited rain/thunderstorm chances
will lead to elevated fire weather conditions, mainly for areas
west of Highway 83.

Temperatures reach the upper 80s to lower 90s today, but warm
further into the upper 90s to low 100s Thursday and Friday. This
coincides with strong upper-ridging building in from the
southwest. A surface trough/dryline will push off the higher
terrain into far western Nebraska Thursday and Friday. Dew points
behind this feature will fall into the 30s which will support
humidity minimums falling below 25 percent. Winds remain marginal
on Thursday but could increase slightly on Friday as ridge
breakdown begins. For now, given unfavorable fuel status in
addition to humidity failing to meet critical levels, no headlines
are expected but weather conditions will support erratic behavior
of any fire starts.

Cooler temperatures arrive as early as Friday for some but all by
Saturday with temperatures falling near to slightly below normal
for mid-August. Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase as
well but the potential for wetting rains appears somewhat limited
at this time. Temperatures beyond the weekend will likely climb
once again with forecast values returning near climatological
values by Monday/Tuesday.
