006 FNUS53 KLBF 281008 FWFLBF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and North Central for Nebraska National Weather Service North Platte NE 408 AM CST Fri Feb 28 2025 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM MST THIS EVENING... ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM CST THIS EVENING... .DISCUSSION... Critical fire weather conditions are expected today due to a combination of well above average temperatures in the 60s, dry air, and strong northwest winds. Humidity recovery this morning has been very poor across the area, and will promote rapidly falling humidity into this afternoon. Though humidity will remain near to slightly above criteria (around 20-25%), strong northwest winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour across the Sandhills and north central Nebraska will lead to a threat for rapid fire spread. Northwest wind gusts of 25 to 35 miles per hour are also expected across southwest Nebraska. A Red Flag Warning is in effect today across all of western and north central Nebraska. Above average temperatures persist into the weekend and early next week, with a threat for elevated fire weather persisting as well. Slightly below average temperatures and a threat for wetting moisture returns into the middle of next week, leading to lessening fire concerns.
