110 FXUS63 KLBF 241717 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 1217 PM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Temperatures are expected to remain below average through the week, with high temperatures around 10 to 15 degrees below normal. - Precipitation chances persist throughout the week, with the best chances across western and southwestern Nebraska. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 227 AM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025 An upper level low is located over north central Ontario, with an upper level trough located over the Great Lakes region into the Plains. An upper level high is observed over the Four Corners region, with subtropical moisture advection occurring over the Rockies, into the Plains. At the surface, high pressure builds across the northern Plains into north central Nebraska. In vicinity of the low across western Colorado, showers and thunderstorms persist through the morning across southwest Nebraska. Skies remain cloudy this afternoon, which helps limit daytime highs in the low to mid 70s across the region. This afternoon, though skies remain cloudy, we should get a brief reprieve from precipitation. By the late evening, additional shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to develop off the higher terrain to the west, tracking southeast. Some of these storms track into southwestern Nebraska, bringing additional rainfall, mainly along and south of Interstate 80. Showers are expected to persist overnight, lasting into early Monday morning. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... Issued at 227 AM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025 Throughout the week, northwesterly flow aloft is expected to continue, along with several low pressure systems along the front range of the Rockies. This set up brings near daily chances for showers and thunderstorms across western and southwestern Nebraska through the week. In combination with surface high pressure, temperatures are expected to remain cooler than average throughout the week. Temperatures are currently expected to remain around 10 to 15 degrees below average, with highs remaining in the 70s through most of the week. By the end of the week, temperatures may begin to slightly warm back to the upper 70s, potentially into the lower 80s, but this would still remain cooler than our normal highs, which are around 85 to 87 degrees. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z MONDAY/... Issued at 1215 PM CDT Sun Aug 24 2025 Low stratus will continue to lead to MVFR CIGs across portions of southwest Nebraska this afternoon and evening. In addition, scattered thunderstorm development will be possible through tonight across southwest Nebraska, leading to brief MVFR visibilities and gusty, erratic winds. Low stratus will expand into the Sandhills tonight, and lead to MVFR/locally IFR CIGs into Monday morning. This low stratus will slowly erode tomorrow afternoon, with a return to VFR expected for all area terminals. Winds remain east-southeasterly outside of thunderstorms, at around 5 to 10kts. && .LBF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ SHORT TERM...Richie LONG TERM...Richie AVIATION...Brown
