Through 900 am, widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms across Florida Bay, the Bayside waters, the Middle and Upper Keys, central and eastern Hawk Channel, and the central and eastern Straits of Florida will continue to progress eastward. Individual cells for this activity will move to the east to northeast at 15 to 20 knots. Mariners encountering the strongest thunderstorms, along a line extending from slightly west of Marathon Humps in the central Straits, northeastward towards the Middle Keys and into the nearshore waters north of the Middle and Upper Keys, can expect wind gusts up to near 30 knots, occasional cloud to surface lightning strikes, and blinding downpours. Island communities of the Middle and Upper Keys can expect an additional half to one inch of rainfall with locally rainfall amounts in excess of 1.5 to 2 inches. $$ MJV
