...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM SOUTH OF TORTUGAS ECOLOGICAL RESERVE
SOUTH...

The areas affected include...
Straits of Florida from Halfmoon Shoal to 20 nm west of Dry Tortugas
out 60 nm...

At 316 AM EDT, National Weather Service meteorologists detected a
strong thunderstorm, capable of producing wind gusts near 30 knots
and continuous lightning. This thunderstorm was located 15 nm south
of Tortugas Ecological Reserve South, moving northwest at 15 knots.

The strong thunderstorm will remain over mainly open waters.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Prepare for thunderstorms with wind gusts near 30 knots, locally
rough and confused seas, occasional lightning strikes, and
potentially blinding downpours. Get to a safe port as quickly, and as
safely as possible. When downpours reduce visibility, slow down.

Intense and continuous lightning is occurring with this storm. Stay
low, or go below. Lower VHF antenna, outriggers, fishing rods, and
umbrellas. Avoid open areas on islands and sandbars. Do not shelter
under tall or isolated trees on nearby mangrove islands.
