Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Kentucky
National Weather Service Jackson KY
316 PM EDT Thu Oct 16 2025

.DISCUSSION....Upper-level ridging will build into the region for
Friday but will be short-lived as an approaching trough will
cause the ridge to break down leading to southwesterly flow and
warmer temperatures. Highs will climb into the low to upper 70s
but the source region for moisture is overland leading to
continued dry air and lowered afternoon minimum RHs which will be
in the upper 20 to mid 30 percent range. Some short term models
such as the HRRR have hinted there could be a line of showers that
move through the area early Saturday morning, however, a layer of
dry air near the surface will likely result in virga. The
above mentioned trough will bring a cold front through the area
beginning Saturday afternoon and provides a wetting rain through
frontal passage on Sunday. Strong winds will accompany the front
Sunday afternoon. Surface high pressure and dry weather return to
the area for Monday.
