Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Kentucky
National Weather Service Jackson KY
550 AM EST Fri Feb 28 2025

...Gusty Winds and Low RH This Afternoon...

.DISCUSSION...Winds will be rather gusty this afternoon from the
southwest to west at 10 to 20 mph most places. Western parts of
the area will see the highest wind speeds of 15 to 25 mph this
afternoon and evening with wind gusts of up to 45 mph. While the
southeast parts of the area are not expected to see those higher
winds, they will still likely gust to as high as 35 mph at times.
This is a concern given that relative humidities in the afternoon
will fall to between 25 and 30 percent for a time leading to near
critical fire weather conditions. While conditions will be breezy
on Saturday, as well, humidity levels are not expected to fall as
low during the afternoon. There will be a chance of sprinkles
around in the far east during the day Saturday, but the next
chance of more significant rainfall is not until around the middle
of next week.
