Updated to reflect Union Parish EF-2 tornado path from the NWS Shreveport CWA extending into northwestern Morehouse Parish. .OVERVIEW... National Weather Service survey teams have confirmed eight tornadoes from the January 5th severe weather event, including two EF-2 tornadoes, five EF-1 tornadoes, and one EF-0 tornado. No additional surveys are planned at this time, but additional adjustments are still possible pending analysis of aerial imagery. .Dean Tornado... Rating: EF2 Estimated Peak Wind: 132 mph Path Length /statute/: 9.1 miles Path Width /maximum/: 650 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 1/5/2025 Start Time: 2:19 PM CST Start Location: 4 SE Marion / Union Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.8646 / -92.191 End Date: 1/5/2025 End Time: 2:36 PM CST End Location: 10 SE Felsenthal / Morehouse Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.9283 / -92.0541 Survey Summary: On January 5, 2025 an EF2 tornado moved through portions of Union Parish in Louisiana. The tornado began on Cable Lane Road, southeast of Marion at approximately 20:19. The tornado then continues to move northeast, crossing Boothville Road while snapping numerous tree branches and tree trunks, some of which covered the roadway. By 20:22, the tornado reached Earnest Pace Road, where a trailer was lifted and blown off of its foundation, with associated debris also being blown across the road. Extensive vehicle damage was also noted in this area. The tornado continued to move northeast, producing damage along Jurd Pardue Road, where several homes also experienced damage to roofs and carports. The tornado then crossed Dean Church Road where the most extensive damage was found. A local shop collapsed and was then blown off of its foundation. This is where estimated peak winds of 132 mph were found. The tornado then moved along Parish Road 2260, producing damage to another home`s roof and nearby sheds before entering the Upper Ouachita Wildlife Refuge. Additional damage was located using high-resolution Sentinel-2 satellite data, although this area was inaccessible by ground. Based on the satellite imagery, the tornado continued northeast and crossed the Ouachita River into Morehouse Parish. The tornado ended shortly thereafter. .West Carroll Tornado... It shifted a mobile home on Myers Road, with no injuries. Most trees that were snapped and roof damage was minor, continuing northeast. It went through Cook Road before lifting shortly after. .Pelahatchie Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 105 mph Path Length /statute/: 11.1 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 1/5/2025 Start Time: 7:11 PM CST Start Location: 5 ESE Brandon / Rankin County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 32.2541 / -89.9184 End Date: 1/5/2025 End Time: 7:28 PM CST End Location: 3 NNE Pelahatchie / Rankin County / MS End Lat/Lon: 32.3541 / -89.7691 Survey Summary: This tornado touched down just north of Shilo Road and tracked NE for 11 miles before dissipating just past Leesburg Road. Much of the damage along the path was damaged trees along with uproots and snapped trees, some power lines were down as well. Just off of Gulde Road, chicken houses were damaged with much of there roofs pealed off. Peak intensity was from the chicken house area to Lake Road where the most tree snaps were noted. Max winds were around 105 mph. One indirect injury was noted as a train ran into a downed tree on the rail road in the area of the damaged chicken houses. .Winston County tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 4.3 miles Path Width /maximum/: 250 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 1/5/2025 Start Time: 7:40 PM CST Start Location: 5 ESE Louisville / Winston County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 33.0885 / -88.9686 End Date: 1/5/2025 End Time: 7:47 PM CST End Location: 9 E Louisville / Winston County / MS End Lat/Lon: 33.1057 / -88.8979 Survey Summary: This tornado began just west of Jack Warner Road, where it snapped a few trees and caused damage to the roof of a home along with a shed. The tornado continued northeast crossing Boon Road and caused extensive damage to a gas station and a tree fell on a house at this location. The tornado continued northeast across J.C. Sullivan Road snapping a few more trees and damaged a Shed. The tornado continued across Highway 14, before ending just northeast of Highway 14 snapping a few more trees. Max winds were 115 mph. Max width was 250 yards. .Brooksville Tornado... Rating: EF2 Estimated Peak Wind: 115 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.4 miles Path Width /maximum/: 500 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 1/5/2025 Start Time: 8:11 PM CST Start Location: 1 NNW Brooksville / Noxubee County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 33.2445 / -88.5887 End Date: 1/5/2025 End Time: 8:16 PM CST End Location: 3 NE Brooksville / Noxubee County / MS End Lat/Lon: 33.2677 / -88.5365 Survey Summary: This tornado started just west of Highway 45 north of Brooksville snapping a few trees. The tornado continued northeast across Highway 45 snapping and uprooting numerous trees, along with snapping 5 power poles. The tornado was at its strongest at this point. The tornado continued northeast where it snapped a few more trees and also overturned a Pivot. The tornado ended just north of Dwelling Place Road. Max winds were at 115 mph and the max width was 500 yards. .Northern Lawrence County Tornado... Along its path, it blew down weak and dead trees, did minor roof damage to a house, and tossed a trampoline. It continued to do weak tree damage before dissipating just over the Simpson County line. .Gwinville Tornado... Along its path, it uprooted softwood trees and broke large branches. An abandoned building was damaged. An old gas station was shifted off its foundation and porch was uplifted, with its gabled roof having caught the wind. Another single family home had its porch uplifted. it continued to do tree damage before it dissipated just over the Simpson County line near HWY 13. .Shady Grove Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 6.2 miles Path Width /maximum/: 300 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 1/5/2025 Start Time: 8:52 PM CST Start Location: 5 WNW Mize / Smith County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 31.9013 / -89.6415 End Date: 1/5/2025 End Time: 9:00 PM CST End Location: 5 N Mize / Smith County / MS End Lat/Lon: 31.939 / -89.5459 Survey Summary: This tornado began along County Road 108 northwest of Shady Grove where a home suffered generally minor damage to gutters and flashing and a couple of trees were downed. The tornado moved northeast where it intensified and reached maximum intensity of 110 mph, EF-1, near County Road 503. Several trees were downed including uproots and pine snaps, a shed was destroyed with its contents strewn to the northeast, and 5-6 power poles were downed.
