Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois
National Weather Service Lincoln IL
105 PM CDT Sat Oct 5 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Gusty south-southwest winds will continue through the evening,
easing gradually and veering slightly ahead of a cold front that
will cross the area from roughly 2am at the IL River to I-57 by 8-9
am Sunday morning. Behind that front, dew points will rapidly
drop and winds sharply turn, blowing out of the northwest. These
northwest winds will gust to around 25 mph through the afternoon
Sunday, which together with min afternoon RH values of 20 to 25
percent will result in enhanced risk for rapid fire spread. As
surface high pressure settles into the region in the wake of the
front early next work week, winds will ease and subsidence result
in decreasing mixing heights leading to fair to poor vent rates.
Precipitation chances remain less than 15% through next Saturday,
October 12th.
