...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 2006, Wichita set its all time record high
temperature for the month of October when the mercury
soared to 97 degrees. The previous record high
temperature for October had been 95 degrees set on
October 8th, 1979. In 2010, Tropical Storm Nicole
finally vacated the Mid-Atlantic Coast but not until
inundating much of the region with 1 to nearly 2 feet of
rain in a 5-day period. Hardest hit were the coasts of
North Carolina and Virginia, as well as southeastern
Pennsylvania, where 13 to nearly 23 inches of rain caused
hideous flooding. Six drowned, 5 in North Carolina and 1
in Pennsylvania. The flooding was so deep that cars
actually floated atop each other. Wilmington North
Carolina `rained supreme` by measuring a staggering 22.54
inches from September 26th to the 30th. However, Nicole
died a slow death as she would unload 6 to 10 inches of
rain on New York City and Boston.
