In 1926, the Great Miami Hurricane produced 138 mph
winds which drove ocean waters into Biscayne Bay where
135 people drowned. The eye passed directly over Miami,
at which time the barometric pressure dropped to 27.61
inches. Tides up to 12 feet accompanied the hurricane,
which claimed a total of 372 lives. In 1988, a strong
cold front produced severe thunderstorms across the
Northern Plains. Behind the front, north winds gusted to
92 mph in Fort Collins Colorado while 7 to 12 inches of
snow buried the Rockies in Montana.
