...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1973, North Central Oklahoma was inundated by 15 to
20 inches of rain in 13 hours.Enid received 15.68
inches from nearly stationary thunderstorms, which
established a 24-hour state rainfall record.  In Dover
Oklahoma, 125 of 150 homes were damaged by flooding.

In 1804, a weather event that was so surreal that it was
seemingly of `Twilight Zone` material occurred when a
snow hurricane struck New England.  This bizarre storm
leveled forests so thoroughly that the change in
landscape led people to believe they were living in new,
unfamiliar surroundings.  Dozens of buildings were
heavily damaged or destroyed and many churches lost
steeples, among them the famous North Church in Boston.
Most areas received 5 to 15 inches of wet snow, with a
few areas buried in 2 to 3 feet.  The death toll is
unknown.
