...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1951, an early season snowstorm hit Missouri. Saint
Louis received 13.3 inches, which was their biggest snow
ever for so early in the season. Washington County
averaged around 20 inches. In 1980, the temperature in

In 2011, a 5.6 moment magnitude earthquake struck 45
miles east northeast of Oklahoma City late in the
evening. Besides being felt in most of Oklahoma, the
tremblor was felt in Kansas Texas and Arkansas, and as
far away as Tennessee Illinois and Wisconsin. Many homes
sustained significant damage to chimneys and brick walls,
some of which collapsed, along with many indoor items
such as cupboards and dishware. Several highways cracked
and buckled. The earthquake occurred immediately after
the Kansas State/Oklahoma State football game had ended,
and was viewed during a post game interview. No injuries
were reported.Putting this into perspective, the most
powerful earthquake on record was the Great Chilean
Earthquake of May 22nd, 1960. This monstrous 9.5 moment
magnitude event was 7,943.3 times bigger but released
707,945.8 times as much energy!
