780 FXUS63 KICT 040826 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 326 AM CDT Sun Oct 4 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Tranquil and mild conditions over the upcoming week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 317 AM CDT Sun Oct 4 2026 Currently, a short wave trough is situated over the Upper Midwest and is moving eastward over the Great Lakes region. At the surface, the corresponding low pressure sits over western Quebec with a frontal boundary draped from Minnesota into northern Kansas. Broad ridging extends over the western U.S. and into the Southern Plains placing the forecast area under northwesterly flow. As we progress through the morning hours, the frontal boundary will sweep across the state turning winds out of the north, and eventually the northeast. This cold front won`t bring much in terms of cooler temperatures, but rather a reinforcing shot of dry air. High temperatures today will reach into the middle 70s for central Kansas with highs close to 80s degrees near the KS/OK border. For Monday, highs in the middle 70s are expected areawide. The drier air is prominent on water vapor imagery and anomalously low PWATs expected through Monday. Mostly clear skies and zero precip chances will continue through Monday night. Ridging will begin to start building into the region on Tuesday, with the ridge center remaining over the Desert Southwest and the Southern Plains. A weak perturbation in the pattern on Tuesday night associated with a trough digging into the Great Lakes may slow the warming trend. But increasing heights will lead to afternoon temperatures reaching into the middle 80s by the end of the week. A few clouds associated with passing waves are expected for Tuesday into Wednesday, as well as on Saturday. Otherwise, dry conditions will persist through the end of the forecast period. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z MONDAY/... Issued at 1031 PM CDT Sat Oct 3 2026 Quiet VFR conditions are expected the next 24 hours across central, south-central, and southeast KS. A weak cool front will support a wind shift to north-northeasterly overnight, with speeds up to around 10-13 kts by mid-late morning Sunday. && .ICT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
