.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 238 PM CST Wed Dec 4 2024

Challenges: Temperatures through the week

Changes: Minimal

After the cool down, we had a nice return of warmth and above normal
temperatures as afternoon values were in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Sunny skies prevailed with winds at 10-20 mph which made for a
pretty nice December day. There is a low pressure system heading to
the Great Lakes region with an upper level southern portion
positioned over the Desert Southwest; a ridge is off to the north of
that southern portion over the Pacific Northwest.

Cooler air will infiltrate in behind a cold front associated
with the system tracking south to the Great Lakes region; this
front should move through tonight into Thursday. Overnight low
temperatures are forecast to drop just a bit below seasonal
normal with values in the low to mid 20s. Thursday is the
coolest day in the forecast period with daytime highs only
expected to peak in the mid 30s to lower 40s. This will be short
lived as an upward trend of temperatures is expected for the
weekend. The upper low over the Desert Southwest is pushed east
northeast into the Plains on Sunday as a northern trough drops
down from Canada for Sunday into Monday. This leads to a cooler
start of next week. It is of course this northern system that
brings a reinforcing shot of cooler air with highs in the low to
mid 40s on Tuesday. A dry forecast persists through the
forecast period with the chances for Sunday remaining off to the
east. Southeast Kansas could see a shower given the moisture
transport, but the better forcing is to the south and east. The
ongoing forecast was fairly representative of current thoughts
and trends; thus minimal changes were made.
