Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
117 PM ChST Mon Jul 7 2025

...ANTICIPATED OUTAGE OF SOME PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ON 10 JULY...
...WFO GUAM TO INSTALL NEW POWER TRANSFER SWITCH TO ENSURE RELIABLE
POWER CHANGEOVER FROM ISLAND POWER TO GENERATOR...

The NWS Weather Forecast Office in Guam (WFO Guam) will be performing
critical power maintenance on Thursday, 10 July 2025, that will
require the WFO to be fully powered down, including all operational
forecast systems and office phones. This maintenance will be
performed to better ensure WFO Guam`s long-term readiness to provide
continued operations in the midst of hazardous weather and related
power interruptions.

The majority of forecast products, including all watches, warnings,
and advisories, will be provided by the NWS Weather Forecast Office
in Honolulu (HFO). However, there will still be a variety of impacts
and outages. WFO Guam plans to resume normal forecast operations that
same evening, 10 July.

Known impacts include:

1) Outage of AAFB PGUA WSR-88D radar data processing and
dissemination.

2) All NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) transmitters in the Marianas will be
unavailable. The transmitters affected are:

WXM85 Mount Alutom on 162.40 MHz
WXM86 Mount Tapochao on 162.550 MHz

Please note that NWR is the only method for the National Weather
Service to activate the Emergency Alert System (EAS) for weather-
related watches and warnings. If there is a weather-related warning
issued while NWR is down, the Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil
Defense on Guam, and the Homeland Security Office of Emergency
Management in the CNMI, have the capability to activate the EAS using
the Civil Emergency Message Event Code, in addition to multiple
other means of communication including, but not limited to, direct
calls and Social Media.

3) Marianas text products likely to be impacted include the Daily
Climate Reports (e.g., CLIGUM, TIDGUM), Monthly Summaries (e.g.,
CF6GUM, CF6GSN), and the daily Point Forecast Matrices (PFMGUM).

4) Micronesia text products that will not be available include the
point forecast matrices (PFMPQ1, PFMPQ2), and the Tabular State
Forecast (SFTPQ1, SFTPQ2).

5) The 9 AM ChST (00Z) RAOB (upper-air balloon) will not be launched.
