In 1942, over two inches of rain produced damaging flash floods during the early morning hours between McCook and Cambridge in Red Willow County, Nebraska. Farm buildings and livestock along the Coon Creek were swept away. The floods produced considerable damage in Bartley, Indianola and Cambridge. Almost every business in Indianola was impacted by the flood. Sections of railroad tracks were washed away. Adjusted for inflation, the total loss in the flood area was around 1.5 million dollars. The Republican River also rose to bankful with slight overflows reported in South Central Nebraska. $$
