.DISCUSSION...
Winds will be light and variable across most of the area through the
early afternoon hours. The strongest winds gusting 20-25mph today
will be across southern Rooks/Osborne/Mitchell counties along a warm
frontal boundary. Further north, gusts are expected to remain below
20mph through the evening hours, with winds becoming southerly this
afternoon/evening. Afternoon relative humidity values will range from
20-25% across far southwestern portions of the area to 40% across
far northeastern portions of the area. Elevated/near critical fire
weather is possible across southern Rooks/Osborne/Mitchell where the
wind is strongest, but the coverage looks to be fairly small.
Scattered thunderstorms are possible along the warm front this
afternoon and evening but there is uncertainty if storms will
develop. If storms do develop, gusts of 50-60mph are possible in the
strongest storms.
The warm front will lift north this evening/overnight, with gusts of
20-25mph expected during the overnight hours. Relative humidity
values will climb above 60% overnight.
Southerly winds gusting 25-35mph are expected during the day on
Friday, with the strongest winds east of Highway 281. The strongest
winds (east of Hwy 281) will result in continued moisture advection,
keeping relative humidity values above 30 percent. Relative humidity
values quickly drop off west of Highway 281, with relative humidity
values below 20% along a Cambridge to Ord line. Winds in this area
will be lighter, with gusts generally below 20mph keeping the area
from reaching critical fire weather conditions. An area of near-
critical fire weather is expected where there is an overlap of gusty
winds and lower relative humidity.
Thunderstorm chances become more widespread Friday evening through
Sunday as a cold front moves into the area.
