.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 354 PM CST Fri Feb 7 2025

Today through Saturday night...

Mostly zonal flow is over the central Plains. Gusty southeast winds
are across south central and central Nebraska and north central
Kansas. Temperatures are currently mostly in the 40s with lower
clouds moving in from the south. Winds will weaken this evening into
tonight then become northerly late tonight as a cold front moves
into the area. Low temperatures tonight are expected to drop into
the mid teens to low 30s. Patchy freezing fog may develop tonight
into early Saturday morning across mainly north central Kansas where
the temperature/dewpoint spread is small. Also, freezing drizzle and
possibly very light snow may develop ahead of and along the cold
front. Chances of freezing drizzle and snow are around or less than
20 percent from around 9 pm this evening to 9 am Saturday morning.
Little to no snow accumulation is expected. Light ice accumulations
may occur with amounts up to 0.05 inches in portions of far south
central Nebraska and north central Kansas. This could lead to some
slick roads and side walks by Saturday morning. Winds will be
gusting out of the north to northwest by mid Saturday morning. Wind
gusts up to 30 to 40 mph are expected. Wind chills Saturday morning
are expected to range from near 0 degrees to around 20 degrees.
Northerly winds will continue through Saturday afternoon with a
surface high centered across North Dakota. High temperatures
Saturday will range from the mid 20s to upper 30s. Low temperatures
Saturday night are expected to drop from around 10 to 20 degrees.
Light snow is possible (25% chance or less) late Saturday night
generally from Kearney westward.

Sunday through Thursday...

A surface high will remain across south central and central Nebraska
and north central Kansas on Sunday. This will result in high
temperatures in the mid 30s to low 40s on Sunday. Snow chances (25%
chance or less) are present through Sunday morning. Low temperatures
Sunday night will be similar to the previous night with light
southerly winds. Snow will again be possible (less than 30 percent
chance) Monday afternoon. High temperatures Monday will range from
the low to mid 30s. A cold front will push into the area Monday
evening/night. Snow chances will increase (around 55% to 80%) Monday
night with gusty northerly winds. Low temperatures Monday night will
range from around -5 degrees to 15 degrees. Wind chill values will
range from around -5 degrees to -25 degrees. A surface high will
have more impact across the area on Tuesday with highs ranging from
the upper single digits to upper teens. Snow chances (20% to 70%)
will continue through Tuesday and into Tuesday night (30% to 80%).
Low temperatures Tuesday night will range from just below 0 degrees
to the single digits. Wind chills will range from the negative
single digits to negative teens. Snow chances (15% to near 60%) will
continue through Wednesday. High temperatures on Wednesday are
expected mostly be in the teens. Clearing skies and light winds will
be across the area Wednesday night with temperatures dropping into
mostly the negative single digits. Minimum wind chills will mostly
be in the negative teens. Winds will increase out of the south on
Thursday which will result in temperatures warming up into mostly
the 20s.
