Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northeast Montana
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
253 AM MDT Mon Sep 30 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR
GUSTY WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY FOR MUCH OF NORTHEAST MONTANA...

.DISCUSSION...

High to very high fire danger is still common with further curing
of fuels since yesterday and no recent or upcoming wetting rain.
Critical conditions will linger or reemerge through this
afternoon, particularly in some of the windiest locations outside
of the Little Rockies. Despite the notably stronger sustained
winds of 20 to 40 mph compared to the yesterday afternoon,
humidity will be slightly higher...bottoming out in the upper
teens and 20s percent along with much cooler temperatures. Looking
ahead, Tuesday afternoon has elevated fire weather conditions
forecast due to lower humidity in the teens and potential for
gusty winds to a lesser extent than today. Trends will be
monitored today for any additional headlines tomorrow, but tonight
is not of concern due to light winds and near freezing
temperatures. Winds look light enough the rest of the week to
limit concerns at this time, despite a dry and warmer than normal
pattern continuing.
