777 FNUS55 KGGW 292006 FWFGGW Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northeast Montana National Weather Service Glasgow MT 206 PM MDT Sun Sep 29 2024 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MDT MONDAY FOR GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY... .DISCUSSION... Periods of widespread critical fire weather conditions are likely through late tonight. The primary concern this afternoon will be record temperatures as high as the upper 90s along with humidity as low as 10 percent. Most locations have high to very high fire danger with further curing of fuels occurring today. The hot/dry/windy index today is well above the 95th percentile or at record highs for this time of year. Winds will be mostly in the 10 to 25 mph range this afternoon, before increasing into the 20 to 35 mph range with gusts up to 55 mph behind a cold frontal passage this evening. This frontal passage brings almost zero chance of any wetting rain, while coming with enough cloud cover and drier air to limit humidity recovery until after midnight. Near critical conditions will linger into Monday afternoon, particularly outside of the Little Rockies where the gusty winds that begin this evening remain more persistent. Despite the notably stronger winds compared to the previous afternoon, humidity will be slightly higher Monday at around 20 percent along with much cooler temperatures. Looking ahead, Tuesday afternoon will also have slightly elevated fire weather conditions due to lower humidity and potential for gusty winds to a lesser extent.
