.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

1) Quiet weather looks to continue tonight before the next
Alberta system approaches Friday night through Sunday with
accumulating snow.

2) Temperatures will once again fall late in the weekend and early
next week behind the clipper system.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Attention turns now toward the Alberta system approaching the
region Friday night into the weekend. Temperatures have trended up
a bit for Saturday leading to more mixed precipitation, though
predominantly snow. Overall, while amounts have trended lower for
now, the broad consensus of 2 to 4 inches from the Little Rockies
east along the Missouri River and points south look most probable.
NBM shows 72 hour probability ending Sunday broadly in the 30 to
50 percent range. This would square with a solid advisory. These
thoughts could still be refined over time as precipitation type
issues become resolved.

An arctic high pressure will slide into the northern High Plains
for Sunday as the system departs with falling temperatures. The
pattern still favors chinook warning into early next week.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Confidence for the weekend snow is moderate to high, but
uncertainty still exists in the exact precipitation type evolution
as well as total amounts.

.AVIATION...

LAST UPDATED: 0030Z

FLIGHT CAT RANGE: VFR.

DISCUSSION: Clear skies are in store for this evening. There is a
small chance(<20%) at FOG along the Milk and Missouri River
Valleys including KGGW and KOLF. If it does occur, it should be
shallow and only last for an hour or two between 09-15Z. Afterward
higher ceilings will begin spilling into the region with an
approaching system during the late morning/early afternoon.

LLWS: Low level wind shear will be possible from 21Z Friday
afternoon through 06Z Friday night.

WIND: W to NW at 5 to 15 kts this evening. Light and variable
early Friday morning. Becoming S to SW at 5 to 15 kts late
Friday morning into the afternoon. Veering to the W at 10 to 20
kts Friday evening.

BEYOND THE CYCLE: The next system will approach late Friday with
increasing cloudiness. Lower ceilings in MVFR start around 03-06Z
Friday night. There is a chance for rain which will FREEZE to the
ground as ice in the first 12 hours which could lead to slick
runways.
