Cold front passes through the forecast area today and tonight, so expect southeasterly winds to shift to northwesterly. Breezy winds with gusts to 30 mph today, although stronger winds are expected behind the front. Shower and storm chances increase through the day with the best chances this afternoon and tonight east of I-29. RH values around or above 40% will temper fire danger today despite the warmer temps and stronger winds. Rainfall amounts largely less than half an inch, with the highest chances (40-50%) for more than half an inch of rain across southwestern MN. Shower chances continue Friday, with cooler and breezy conditions. Periodic low (less than 30%) chances for showers continue into early and mid next week. Temperatures return to near normal. Very poor weather conditions and very low moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that dangerous burning conditions exist.
