Strong westerly to northwesterly winds will prevail across the region today. Gusts 45-55 mph are expected. Counties along the Missouri River from Gregory county in South Dakota to Dakota county in Nebraska could see gusts up to 60 mph. Light rain showers are expected across most of the region again today. Additional accumulation of a tenth or two is expected. Highs will be cool, in the 50s and 60s. Despite the strong winds, fire danger will be low for the next couple days. Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely monitored. OUTLOOK FOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses.
