Hot and humid conditions continue for this 4th of July holiday, with afternoon heat index readings peaking in the 90s. Take precautions to prevent heat illness if spending time outdoors. An approaching cold front will trigger thunderstorms over central South Dakota by this afternoon and evening. A few strong to severe storms will be possible as the storms move into southeast South Dakota this evening, with isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph as the primary threat. The main time period of concern will be 4 pm through 9 pm. Storms are expected to weaken as they approach Interstate 29 late in the evening, but additional development along and east of I-29 overnight may result in locally heavy rainfall and perhaps isolated urban flooding. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday. Storms will linger mainly east of I-29 into Saturday. The risk for severe weather is low, but locally heavy rain is possible. Additional storms are possible late Monday into Tuesday. While details are uncertain, a few strong to severe storms may develop. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation is not expected at this time. $$
