597 FXUS65 KFGZ 272041 AFDFGZ Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 141 PM MST Thu Mar 27 2025 .SYNOPSIS...A change to cooler and breezier conditions begins on Friday as a West Coast trough begins to approach the region. A few light sprinkles or showers are possible in the far northern part of the state Friday but the rest of the weekend looks dry with temperatures dropping back to seasonal averages. && .DISCUSSION...West Coast trough will begin flattening the ridge that has been in place over us over the last few days starting tomorrow. A shortwave ahead of the trough and a cold front will eject through the area on Friday bringing a band of clouds and some sprinkles or light showers, mainly to the far northern parts of the state (i.e. Kaibab Plateau, Black Mesa, Chuska Mtns, possibly the SF peaks). It will also elevate the southwesterly winds to 20-30 mph, gusts up to 40 mph. Temperatures will be dropped back closer to seasonal averages. Saturday through Tuesday night the ridge is flattened out into a zonal pattern. Temperatures will be seasonal with no precipitation expected. Southwesterly winds will pick up to 15 to 20 mph each afternoon before settling back down at night. Wednesday into Friday a deeper trough moves through the area and could bring us a better shot at precipitation. Again confidence is low as this scenario is still a ways out and model guidance could change. && .AVIATION...Thursday 27/18Z through Friday 28/18Z...VFR conditions are forecast. Southwest winds 10-20 kts with gusts to 30 kts through 02Z, diminishing to less than 10 kts overnight. OUTLOOK...Friday 28/18Z through Sunday 30/18Z...Look for mainly VFR conditions. Southwest winds 15-25 kts with gusts 30-40 kts each day with periods of blowing dust possible in the vicinity of KINW. && .FIRE WEATHER...Friday and Saturday...Mainly dry and mild weather with except isolated light showers along and north of the Interstate- 40 corridor Friday afternoon. Otherwise, Southwest winds 15-25 mph with gusts 30-40 mph each day. Minimum RH around 15-30% on Friday and 10-25% on Saturday. Sunday through Tuesday...Dry and mild.
