231 FXUS65 KFGZ 101156 AFDFGZ Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 456 AM MST Fri Jan 10 2025 .SYNOPSIS...High pressure will start to build over Arizona today with gradually warming temperatures and less wind. Temperatures will continue to warm on Saturday with increasing northwest winds. Cold and breezy conditions return Sunday into early next week. && .DISCUSSION...The weather system that brought the strong winds and snow showers on Thursday has moved east of Arizona this morning. The winds have decreased in most areas this morning. There are a few drainage valleys that have breezy winds and mountain peaks (11,000 feet plus) that have strong winds. Those winds will continue to decrease this morning. Temperatures today will warm 5 to 10 degrees above yesterday. High pressure will move over Arizona today and tonight. By Saturday, another trough of low pressure move south out of the Pac NW and Rockies. This will allow temperatures to warm several degrees on Saturday before dropping again on Sunday. Nighttime temperatures will continue to be cold. Breezes from northwest to northeast will continue at 10 to 20 mph during the day and mostly calm down at night. For Tuesday through Thursday...A cut off low pressure develops off the southern California coast on Tuesday. After that, models diverge as to which way the low will go. For now, temperatures look to remain on the cold side. Winds will likely remain from a northerly direction although that could change by Thursday depending on the low. Finally, there will be some chance of precipitation by Wednesday or Thursday but those chances are set at 10-20% percent at this time. && .AVIATION...Friday 10/12Z through Saturday 11/12Z...VFR conditions expected.
