...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Monday)
Issued at 156 PM EDT Sun Aug 10 2025

...SHORT TERM...

At a glance:

- Pleasant temperatures and cloudy skies.

- Some scattered showers and thunderstorms south of a lines from
Columbus to Macon

We`ll slowly start to see an increase in thunderstorm coverage for
the CWA over the short term, today afternoon thunderstorms will be
mostly limited to south of I-20 though lingering cloud cover this
morning over the metro and Athens may put a lid on potential
development north of a line from Columbus to Macon. Tomorrow will
see greater coverage across the entire CWA. Severe weather is not
expected and CAPE values will limited by cooler temps and an
unimpressive set of dynamics, but a few thunderstorms could have
some strong gusty winds, especially if the cloud deck starts to
break down in the afternoon.

Temperatures will be in the low to mid 80s again today, but will
slowly edge up tomorrow to the mid to upper 80s. This trend is set
to continue through the long term. Significant QPF values are not
expected, but considering all the recent rain a few rivers and low
lying areas could be quick to respond to any additional water, so
we`ll need to keep an eye on the flooding potential.

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday morning through next Saturday)
Issued at 156 PM EDT Sun Aug 10 2025

- Summer Strikes Back

- With it comes afternoon thunderstorms again.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed a taste of fall, because that`s likely
behind us as we move forward. While temperatures aren`t set to sky
rocket overnight, we will see a steady increase through the week
back to the upper 80s and lower 90s for most of the CWA. Upper level
flow breaks down allowing for the return of gulf moisture which will
increase temps, humidity and the chance for afternoon thunderstorms.
Nothing in the models seems to indicate that storms will get any
additional boost from anything in the upper levels.

Nothing in the models seems to indicate a break in this pattern
either as we look ahead. Temps will remain relatively steady and
afternoons will see a slight chances for storms across the entire
CWA.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 130 PM EDT Sun Aug 10 2025

MVFR CIGS have been slow to rise this morning, but the satellite is
showing the development of a BKN CU field that will give us low VFR
conditions after 17Z. Another strong signal tomorrow for IFR CIGS
with the possibility for LIFR after 07Z. Winds will remain out of
the ENE at less than 10kts through the TAF period. There is a small
chance for -TSRA at ATL this afternoon, but confidence is too low to
include it at this time. Scattered -SHRA is more likely and have
included a PROB30.

//ATL Confidence...18Z Update...

Medium to High on IFR possibility.
High on all other elements.
