Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
1248 PM CDT Tue Oct 1 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Wednesday)
Issued at 202 AM CDT Tue Oct 1 2024

Quiet weather conditions are expected in the short term period with
warm daytime temperatures and cool overnight lows. Afternoon highs
today will again approach daily records for the Austin and San
Antonio metros with temperatures in the mid to upper 90s expected in
these locations and over most of South Central Texas. Slightly lower
temperatures are seen over the Hill Country and southern Edwards
Plateau. Some low level cumulus will be possible this afternoon but
mostly clear skies will prevail. A weak surface front approaches the
northern portion of the CWA late tonight into Wednesday morning but
little impact is seen with this feature and dry weather will
continue. Highs on Wednesday may be a few degrees cooler than those
seen today, keeping record highs a bit more out of reach Wednesday
afternoon.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through Monday)
Issued at 202 AM CDT Tue Oct 1 2024

A broad upper level low will slowly push eastward Wednesday-Thursday,
moving into South Central Texas by Thursday night. Onshore flow
should resume as early as Thursday, allowing moisture to work back
inland over the region by late week. This is expected to set the
stage for our best rain chance in weeks. A large area of disturbed
weather is expected to form over the Gulf of Mexico by the latter
half of the week, resulting in increased sfc to 700mb moisture.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible beginning
Friday night over the Coastal Plains and spreading further west and
north Saturday. The aforementioned upper level low will interact with
this moisture and be responsible for our rain chances Friday-
Saturday.

Beyond Saturday, things don`t look much different as high
temperatures remain above average in the lower to middle 90s.
Mornings should remain quite comfortable, in the 60s, while we may
see some 50s in the Hill Country by early next week as a weak cold
front slides southward on Sunday.
