Cumulus development has begun over the elevated terrain as of the noon time hour with scattered thunderstorms initially forming over the east slopes of the Sacramento Mountains. Activity through 2PM will be confined mainly to this area and also the Black Range/upper Gila Wilderness before further daytime heating and enhanced lifting along subsequent outflow boundaries drives lowland rain chances. Any lowland activity today will primarily be along the AZ/NM state line and into central New Mexico between 5-9PM. Water vapor imagery shows the center of the upper high over far west Texas this afternoon. Winds aloft are very light with cloud layer mean winds 5 to 10 knots. Storm motion will be slow today with showers drifting to due east. Flooding risk will be heightened by westward moving outflow and storm propagation becoming nearly stationary over a single location. KEPZ`s 12Z sounding showing PW of 1.18" confirms at least a chance of localized flooding across portions of the Gila Wilderness and Sacramento Mountains this afternoon and a few flooding product may be issued. Storms are not expected to be severe today. Shower coverage will diminish after sunset tonight. $$ Dennhardt
