Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
417 AM CDT Wed Jul 3 2024

Today:

From much of the state, today will be a welcome break from the rounds
of showers and storms of late. Skies were continuing to clear from
west to east, leaving southwest Iowa underneath cloudy skies and
areas of fog. Temperatures this morning will bottom out in the 60s,
coolest northwest, then rebound nicely into the mid to upper 80s. A
few showers or rumbles of thunder may be heard in far northwest or
western Iowa this evening, but is not expected to spread substantially
into the state.

Tonight and beyond:

The reprieve from shower and storm activity will be brief, and
unfortunately that means Independence Day will see chances return.
While much of the state may see some rain on the 4th, northern and
eastern Iowa are the most likely to have evening and fireworks plans
be mucked up by the weather. Central and western areas have a good
shot at being dry by and after sunset. Otherwise, temperatures on the
4th will be on the cooler side with highs ranging from the upper 70s
to low 80s, aided by lingering cloud cover.

Rounding out the week and into the weekend, additional for showers or
thunderstorms exist, with hints of some widespread dry days into next
week. With all of that activity, temperatures too will remain on the
cool side for this time of the year with highs broadly ranging from
the mid 70s to mid 80s.
