Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
341 AM CDT Thu Oct 10 2024

Today:

Clear skies and light winds allowed for another cool night across Iowa
along with little impactful weather. Temperatures were mostly in the
mid 40s to lower 50s although a few river valleys in the north and
west saw readings dip to near 40 degrees.

This tranquil weather persists through today with mostly sunny skies
and winds increasing from the south at around 10 mph. Elevated smoke
may produce a milky appearance in the sky but overall impacts will
remain low.

Tonight and beyond:

One more day of well above normal temperatures are expected on Friday
ahead of an approaching cold front. Readings climb into the mid 80s
across central into southern Iowa by Friday afternoon with near
record temperatures. A cold front is then forecast to pass through the
state by later in the day. The airmass behind this front brings in
normal temperatures for highs on Saturday. However, another front
passes through Iowa on Saturday night with even cooler air arriving on
Sunday with the cool airmass hanging around into early next week.
There may be several nights of frost or freezing conditions during
this time which may bring an end to the growing season for portions of
central Iowa.
