Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
455 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2024

Today:

After a hot and windy day in Iowa, conditions have cooled off both
literally and figuratively overnight and into this morning. Light
west northwest winds are joined by temperatures in the upper 40s west
to mid 50s east as of 4 am. Skies remain clear as well this morning.

Winds will begin to pick up out of the northwest again today, with the
strongest winds and gusts being over northern Iowa. With dry
conditions still in place, these winds will lead to increased fire
danger throughout central and eastern Iowa once again today. Avoid
burning and use caution with any machinery that could produce sparks.
Fortunately, temperatures today will be more seasonal with highs in
the upper 60s north to low 70s south.

Tonight and beyond:

Cool temperatures in the mid 30s set in tonight into Monday morning.
These cool temperatures, coupled with light winds, could result in
frost development on vegetation and elevated surfaces, especially
over northern and west central Iowa. Temperatures then remain seasonal
through the day on Monday, albeit with much lighter winds and another
day of clear skies. This quiet and dry pattern continues through the
work week. However, high temperatures will be steadily increasing
through the week, with highs in the 80s returning by late week. Once
again, no precipitation is forecast through the remainder of the 7 day
forecast period.
