...RECORD HIGH RAINFALL SET AT MASON CITY FOR FRIDAY APRIL 18...

A DAILY RECORD HIGH RAINFALL OF 1.25 INCHES WAS SET AT MASON CITY,
IOWA FOR FRIDAY APRIL 18. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF
1.24 INCHES WHICH OCCURRED IN 1978.

WEATHER RECORDS FOR THE MASON CITY AREA HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM TWO
GENERAL LOCATIONS. INITIAL RECORDS WERE STARTED ON FEBRUARY 1,
1903 IN DOWNTOWN MASON CITY. THE REPORTING LOCATION REMAINED NEAR
DOWNTOWN UNTIL AUGUST 1, 1918 WHEN THE SUGAR MANUFACTURING FACILITY
NORTH OF TOWN TOOK OVER OBSERVATIONS. REPORTS CONTINUED AT THIS SITE
UNTIL JANUARY 1, 1948 WHEN THE CURRENT OBSERVATION SITE AT THE MASON
CITY AIRPORT BEGAN REPORTING.

TEMPERATURE, PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL RECORDS ALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY
1, 1903.
